United Nations  – Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s)

In 2015 the UN formally accepted a new set of 17 measurable Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ranging from ending world poverty to achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls by 2030. The SDGs stress the importance of education in achieving a more humane world. To all goals targets and indicators have been described, as well as learning objectives.

The Natural Step

The Natural Step makes sustainability understandable for everyone. ‘We are a leading partner for organizations ready to address humanities grand challenges to create a better future. We enable decision makers to manage complexity, define their future position and seize opportunities for short and long term success’.  TNS processes and tools facilitate action in order to create quick and true sustainability together.

The four principles of TNS:

In a sustainable society, nature is not subject to systematically increasing…
SP1

1… concentrations of substances from the earth’s crust (such as fossil CO2 and heavy metals)

2… concentrations of substances produced by society (such as antibiotics and endocrine disruptors)

3… degradation by physical means (such as deforestation and draining of groundwater tables).

4. And in that society there are no structural obstacles to people’s health, influence, competence, impartiality and meaning.

World Model

IFF Member Tony Hodgson has developed a World System Model (see below) as a tried, tested and fine-tuned representation of the complexity of the global problematique. It offers the clearest way yet of examining and understanding the interconnected problems we face and of formulating creative and transformative ways of approaching those problems. It can be used in many different ways  – for developing strategic resilience, for interpreting horizon scanning, and as an educational tool for one-planet living.
